Intentional Living With Designer Anne Fontaine

This summer, Anne Fontaine and her family embarked on a journey of discovery and inspiration. Their travels took them to the picturesque French Alps, where they embraced the thrill of bicycling through towering mountains.

The breathtaking scenery and invigorating challenges provided a truly unforgettable experience.

Their next destination was Chapada Dimantina, Brazil – a place steeped in history and natural wonders. Formerly known as Diamantina, this colonial city gained fame for Brazil's first alluvial diamond discoveries in the early 1700s. Anne and her family immersed themselves in the rich natural beauty of the region, exploring magnificent waterfalls, venturing into the depths of extensive caverns, and marveling at the serene lakes nestled within. They also indulged in delightful hikes and discovered the picturesque villages that dotted the landscape. The changing light throughout the year offered unique perspectives of the caverns, creating a magical experience in every season.

When asked about her inspiration for these travels, Anne emphasized her deep desire to connect with nature and find solace in remote locations. Centering herself and finding inner peace among the wondrous creations of Mother Nature has always been of utmost importance to her. These travels provided the perfect opportunity to recharge her batteries and rediscover the harmony and tranquility that come from being in harmony with the natural world.

During these adventures, Anne was asked about her feelings regarding her daughter leaving home for college, and how this vacation marked the first time she was away without her. Anne expressed missing her daughter deeply, as family is incredibly important to her. Her and her husband have always fostered an environment of inclusiveness and warmth, welcoming their children's friends and creating a sense of extended family. With one child now living at home, they have made the conscious decision to relocate and create a space that is open to new memories. Although Anne will forever cherish the memories made in their former home in New York, she eagerly anticipates the new chapters that await her family.

Self-care has always been a priority for Anne, and this summer was no exception. She dedicated precious time to her youngest daughter, who is on the verge of becoming a teenager. In their shared interest in natural beauty, Anne and her daughter explored skincare products and shared their knowledge with each other. Anne finds immense joy in witnessing her daughters' growth and development, and she treasures the moments they spend together – whether it is walking along the beach as a family or engaging in meaningful activities that nourish their hearts and souls.

The Fontaine family also took the opportunity to connect with children in the Brazilian villages they visited, nurturing a sense of empathy and compassion. Anne strongly believes in exposing her daughter to the wonders of the earth and fostering an appreciation for nature.
