What’s your favorite item from Anne Fontaine?

This is so hard! This always changes from season to season, but what I really love is our cufflinks! I had no idea women had the cutest cufflinks until I started at Anne Fontaine. They are a must show with every client that walks into our boutique.

What's your go-to style tip for someone who's new to Anne Fontaine?

My go-to style tip for someone who is new to Anne Fontaine is adjust your clothing, so it works with your proportions. My golden rule is if you’re wearing a tight top make sure to wear a looser bottom, and if you’re wearing a tight bottom make sure to wear a looser top. For example, one of my favorite pairings from Anne Fontaine is the Arabesque blouse with the Andy leggings. The Arabesque is loose up top and pairs beautifully with the Andy leggings since they are tighter. Another go-to style tip is identify what kind of body you have based on your measurements. Once you know your measurements, that should help you determine your body type. Common names for body types include “fruit names” like pear or apple along with “shape names” like hourglass and inverted triangle.

Personal Fashion Favorites:

Can you share one Anne Fontaine piece that you think everyone should have in their closet?

This is so hard! If I must choose one Anne Fontaine piece, I am going to go with the Smart blazer or the Lido blazer. These are timeless staples to have in your closet. Blazers are generally a versatile item; they can elevate a casual outfit.

Customer Connection:

Do you have a memorable story about helping a customer find their perfect outfit?

I have many memorable memories, but this one touched me the most! A group of ladies came in looking for wedding outfits. The bride’s sister who was the maid of honor had a harder time looking for the perfect dress/outfit. She was a size 14. She explained to me that the other shops she was in did not cater to her body and was showing her unflattering dresses. I told her no need to worry she is in Anne Fontaine, and this is where the magic happens. It also helped that I am a size 14 as well, she trusted me. I ask lots of questions to see what she was comfortable with and what she was not comfortable in, for example, she did not like to show her arms but loved her curvy figure and wanted to show it off. This is important in helping me choose what I will show her. I got her into the fitting room and played dress up. I gave her the Cap skirt and she absolutely loved it, after giving her so many tops to match the skirt, it clicked to me to show her the Alpilles corset. She tried it on and absolutely fell in love. The challenge here was her arms showing, so then I showed her the Scene sleeves to pair with the whole outfit and BOOM! Received jaw drops from her sister and mother!!! It was a challenge but so worth it. All their faces were in awe. She was in here for about 2 hours! She thanked me so much for being patient with her. This is why I am in fashion. I love making women feel beautiful. It brings me all the joy in the world. Needless to say, she was the best dressed at the wedding! Haha.

Accessorizing Insights:

What's your secret to choosing the perfect accessory for an Anne Fontaine ensemble?

This varies from outfit to outfit. Less is more when it comes to accessorizing. If the neckline is open, like an off the shoulder blouse or blazer, I love giving a collar to accessorize. If it’s a top + bottom combination, my favorite accessory to add is a belt! The Carala belts have been my favorite accessory during the Spring/Summer. If the Anne Fontaine blouse that I am styling takes cufflinks, those are my favorite accessory to add to make the blouse pop!

Anne now does the Carrie and Carala belts in size 2!! Thank you, Anne!!! This helped me so much to style clients who are size 12 and up. These belts are such a timeless staple to have in every woman’s closet.

Style Without Limits:

At Anne Fontaine, we believe in fashion that celebrates every body. How do you assist our shoppers who are size 12 and up in discovering outfits that elevate their confidence and embody their personal style?

What I like to start off with is asking questions to determine what the client is comfortable with and what they are not comfortable with. Does the client like to show their arms, do they prefer a 1/3 sleeve, are they bustier, are they bottom heavy, do they want to hide their mid-section? My goal is making every client feel beautiful and find the perfect outfit that suits their needs. My expertise is understanding different body types and how to dress them. My goal is to guide every client towards flattering silhouettes, fabrics, and patterns that enhances their curves and create a balanced look. I also love accessorizing, such as choosing the right jewelry, handbags, and shoes to complete every outfit. The fun of fashion is just trying it on. I always push a client to try on something that I think will look great on them. Often times they hesitate because of the color/fabrication/fit of the item but once they TRY IT ON, they fall in love!! I always say it’s a fashion show in here!

What I also do that helps me determine the fit of every new collection, is trying it on myself. Since I am a size 14, I want to know what pieces have stretch, what works for the busts, hips, length, arms, what accessories fit. Knowing how every piece fits is crucial to what I will show shoppers who are size 12 and up.

Paris Meets California:

What are easy ways to mix California cool with Paris elegance in everyday outfits?

My favorite take on mixing Paris elegance and California cool must be adding a blazer or coat to a casual outfit! This elevates any outfit and makes the outfit so chic. I love adding a silk scarf or twilly to a casual outfit as well. The weather here in SoCal is perfect for layering pieces; it can be in the 80’s during the day but it always gets cooler in the evening because of all our surrounding waters! I love adding our ruffled blouses such as the Vimera, Maelys, Dessin, and Amande to a cool pair of denim. You’re still dressed casually while embodying the Paris elegance.

Style Advice:

Anne Fontaine often incorporates a blend of classic elegance and modernity. How would you style one of her iconic white shirts for a timeless yet contemporary look?

My favorite way to style her iconic white shirts is adding the Varly vest with denim or the Argan or Morgan pants! The Varly pairs beautifully with all her white shirts. Every time I throw it on a client who is trying on a white shirt, they get it with no questions asked. The vest truly speaks for itself and fits all silhouettes amazingly.
